Black doctors fight to save lives in the ghetto at
King Memorial Hospital. The hospital rises from the charred
ruins of post-riot, drug-infested South Central Los Angeles.
Dr. Edward Mandolyn, the character that we follow through king
Memorials first turbulent years, discovers that there is much
more to his mission than simply healing patients. He must
mediate a clash between Black militants and the LAPD, and save his
job when his new white, Ivy League boss wants to replace him with a
more experienced director. In addition, he must persuade the
woman he loves to stand by him, even though his patients will always
be his priority.
